Cost of living support in East London

When the numbers stop adding up, we sit down with you. Rent has risen. Bills have risen. Wages, mostly, have not. Blossom Group is a community-run response — practical help with food, warmth, bills and benefits, offered without paperwork gauntlets and without judgement.

Who is struggling in our community?

The squeeze is not felt evenly. The cost of living crisis is often reported as a single national story. In our neighbourhoods, it is six or seven quieter stories at once. These are the people knocking on our door — and the people we go to find when they don’t.

Older residents

Pensioners on fixed incomes. State pension rises rarely match real-world price jumps for heating, food, and medication. Many older neighbours are choosing between a warm home and a full plate — often silently, because asking for help feels undignified. One resident shared, “I turned the heating off in November. My daughter didn’t know until Christmas.”

Working families

Wages that no longer stretch. People in employment — often two jobs between them — are finding that their wages simply do not cover the basic necessities. Many are struggling to put food on the table despite working hard.
