Our story

Blossom Nagrecha Radio Partnership - Community Radio

Amplifying Voices, Transforming Communities

Welcome to the Blossom Nagrecha Radio Partnership, where we harness the power of community radio to break down barriers, challenge stigma, and create meaningful change across South Asian communities.

Our Mission

We believe that every voice deserves to be heard, and every story has the power to inspire. Through strategic partnerships with community radio stations, we're bringing vital health and wellbeing conversations directly into the homes, cars, and hearts of thousands of listeners every week.

The Power of Radio

In an age of digital overload, radio remains one of the most trusted and accessible mediums for reaching diverse communities. It crosses language barriers, reaches those who might not access traditional services, and creates an intimate space for honest conversations about topics that matter most.

Our Flagship Partnership: NuSound Radio

Our groundbreaking collaboration with NuSound Radio has redefined what's possible in community health education. With 8,000-10,000 weekly listeners, we've created a safe space for discussing mental health, physical wellbeing, and social issues affecting South Asian women and their families.

What started as a single initiative has grown into a comprehensive mental health awareness programme, delivering 26 sessions and counting, covering over 34 diverse topics—from autism awareness and domestic violence to diabetes management and suicide prevention.

Why Community Radio Matters

Community radio isn't just broadcasting—it's conversation. It's culturally sensitive, linguistically accessible, and deeply connected to the communities it serves. Through our radio partnerships, we:

  • Break Cultural Barriers: Address sensitive topics in culturally appropriate ways, using familiar languages and trusted voices
  • Build Trust: Partner with local organizations and experts who understand the unique challenges facing our communities
  • Create Impact: Reach thousands of people simultaneously, sparking conversations that continue long after the broadcast ends
  • Foster Inclusion: Ensure that marginalized voices and underserved communities have access to life-changing information

Our Approach

Every programme we develop is carefully crafted with:

  • Expert Presenters: From healthcare professionals to community advocates, we bring credible voices to the airwaves
  • Relevant Topics: We listen to community needs and respond with content that addresses real challenges
  • Ongoing Engagement: Our programmes aren't one-off events—we're building sustained awareness and long-term change
  • Cultural Sensitivity: We honor the traditions, languages, and values of the communities we serve

A Complete Public Health Ecosystem

As you can see, we open dialogue to every public health subject and need you can imagine. Our radio work is just one part of a comprehensive approach to community wellbeing:

Every Week at Blossom Group:

  • We meet to run the Bat Cheet Community Hour—a dedicated time for open conversation and connection
  • This is followed by our collaborative work with public health partners in all the areas we serve
  • Our Togetherness Cafes create welcoming spaces that invite even more open discussion about public health topics
  • Through these face-to-face encounters, we're changing people's health for the better, one conversation at a time

Pioneering Work in Health Inequity

Our work in health inequity is unique and groundbreaking. We don't just broadcast information—we create multiple touchpoints where communities can engage with health topics in ways that feel comfortable and culturally appropriate. From radio waves to community cafes, from expert-led sessions to peer conversations, we're building a holistic network of support that addresses health disparities at every level.

The combination of our radio partnership, community hours, and togetherness cafes ensures that no matter how someone prefers to learn and engage, there's a space for them in the conversation about their health and wellbeing.

Join the Conversation

The Blossom Nagrecha Radio Partnership is more than a programme—it's a movement. We're breaking the silence around mental health in South Asian communities, one conversation at a time. Whether you're a listener, a potential presenter, or an organization looking to reach communities through radio, we invite you to be part of this transformative journey.

Together, we're proving that when communities come together on the airwaves, powerful change happens.

Broadcasting hope. Building awareness. Transforming lives.

From Jaswinder Singh Toor

56, community man, radio listener, and still fiddling with antennas when needed

“You know, radio’s been in our blood since the day we arrived in this country.
My mum and dad couldn’t speak much English, but they could sure tune a radio.
We’d be sitting there trying to catch Punjab Radio on Shortwave 3, the aerial sticking out like a helicopter blade, me standing in the corner like a human antenna. And if the TV played up?
No problem — just chuck a brick on top of it, and somehow the picture got clearer.
It worked. Don’t ask me how.”

Taari Sian

Taari Sian – The Founder of NuSound Radio

Taari Sian - Founder of NuSound Radio (Now Nagrecha Radio)

Background

Taari Sian is the visionary founder of NuSound Radio, one of the pioneering community radio stations in East London. A former finance professional who worked as a trader in investment banking, Sian made the bold decision to leave his lucrative career in finance to pursue a greater purpose: building and operating a community radio station that would serve one of the most diverse and underserved areas of London.

From Finance to Community Service

Taari Sian's journey represents a remarkable career transformation. After establishing himself in the competitive world of finance and trading, he recognized a critical gap in community services for the diverse populations of East London, particularly in the Borough of Newham. Rather than continuing on a conventional career path, he chose to dedicate his business acumen and entrepreneurial skills to creating meaningful social impact through community radio.

Founding NuSound Radio

NuSound Radio was established as one of the first community radio stations to go on the air in the UK when locally controlled community radio became legal in 2002. Under Taari Sian's leadership, the station became:

  • A Multilingual Platform: Broadcasting daily to 9 different communities across the London area in over 9 different languages
  • The "United Nations of Radio": Serving one of the most diverse areas in London with culturally sensitive programming
  • A Community Hub: Reaching 8,000-10,000 weekly listeners and creating safe spaces for important conversations

Leadership Philosophy

Sian's approach to running NuSound Radio was shaped by his investment banking background, which gave him and his team a unique perspective on the broadcasting industry. This financial expertise helped the station:

  • Stay financially sustainable while many other community stations struggled
  • Maintain strong brand identity and strategic direction
  • Build partnerships with over 120 nonprofit organizations

Strategic Location

Demonstrating his business acumen, Sian strategically located the station at the highest point in East London, allowing NuSound to broadcast to a larger area while keeping operational costs manageable.

Programming Values

Under Sian's leadership, NuSound Radio maintained clear values:

  • Education and Entertainment Focus: Deliberately avoiding divisive politics and religion
  • Community Partnerships: Working closely with organizations including Alcoholics Anonymous, Metropolitan Police, and Domestic Violence Units
  • Sector Leadership: Providing advisory services to 17 different radio groups across the country, helping them understand broadcasting and radio industry best practices

Transition to Nagrecha Radio

In 2025, NuSound Radio underwent a significant transformation, rebranding as Nagrecha Radio 92FM. The Nagrecha family assumed control of the station from Taari Sian, though he continues to be involved as Sales & Marketing Director. This transition represents the next chapter in the station's evolution while building on the strong foundation Sian established.

Impact and Legacy

Taari Sian's legacy extends far beyond the airwaves:

  • Community Bridge Builder: Created vital connections between diverse South Asian communities and essential services
  • Health Equity Pioneer: Facilitated partnerships like the Blossom Nagrecha Radio Partnership, bringing critical mental health and public health conversations to underserved communities
  • Sector Innovator: Demonstrated how community radio could be both financially sustainable and socially impactful
  • Cultural Ambassador: Showcased the power of multilingual broadcasting in reaching and serving diverse populations

Personal Characteristics

Those who have worked with Taari Sian describe him as:

  • A dedicated community advocate who prioritized service over profit
  • A strategic thinker who applied business principles to social impact
  • A relationship builder who connected the station with businesses, nonprofits, and community groups
  • An innovative leader who saw the potential of community radio before it became widely recognized

Current Role

As of the latest information, Taari Sian continues his involvement with the station (now Nagrecha Radio 92FM) in a Sales & Marketing Director capacity, bringing his expertise to support the station's continued growth and community impact under new ownership.

The Future: National Expansion

Nagrecha Radio will soon become a national radio station, expanding its reach far beyond East London. This exciting development will enable the station to bring its unique blend of multilingual programming, community-focused content, and vital public health conversations to communities across the entire United Kingdom. The expansion represents a natural evolution of the vision that Taari Sian initiated—proving that community radio built on strong values and strategic partnerships can grow to serve audiences on a national scale while maintaining its commitment to cultural sensitivity and community empowerment.

Taari Sian's journey from finance professional to community radio pioneer exemplifies how business skills and social purpose can combine to create lasting positive change in underserved communities.

2. A Platform for All: Not Just South Asians

NuSound’s airwaves are now a melting pot of cultures—while South Asian tunes remain at the heart, Eastern Europeans, Africans, Caribbeans, and more now tune in weekly. Whether you’re from Khan’s Punjab, Seoul’s Gangnam, or Bucharest’s Barrio, there’s something here that speaks your language.

NuSound doesn’t just play music—it builds connection. With its multi-platform coverage, it reaches hundreds of thousands of listeners every single week across Ilford, Newham, Redbridge, Stratford, Romford, Walthamstow, and beyond. “That’s why I’m buzzing to tell you:
Blossom Group is working with none other than NuSound Radio—the OG station of East London and Essex’s South Asian communities.”

“And not just with anyone—with THE man himselfTaari.
If you’re from these parts, you know Taari.
The man’s a legend. An encyclopedia of the community.
He knows Newham, Redbridge, Tower Hamlets like khulli kitaab—an open book.”

“Taari’s been holding this community together with a mic and a smile longer than most of us have had hairlines.
And now, together with our own Shahid from Blossom Group, they host the Baat Cheet programme.”

🎙️ Baat Cheet — Real Talk, Real People

On Baat Cheet, you’ll hear:

  • Health tips that actually make sense

  • Mental health stories that sound like your own

  • Info from NHS experts, explained clearly

  • Cultural chats that touch the heart

  • Plus… the occasional auntie calling in to set the record straight

“We do it in Punjabi, Urdu, Bengali, English—whatever language makes you feel seen.
And we do it with tazeezi, izzat, and a good laugh when needed.”

Why It Matters

“NuSound isn’t a corporation—it’s a cornerstone.
A station built by the community, for the community.
And now with Blossom Group on board, we’re making sure the airwaves are full of hope, knowledge, respect, and the voices of people who were once ignored.”

“So tune in.
Whether you're peeling onions, sitting in traffic, or taking a breather after the school run—put us on.”

Final Word from Jaswinder

“To Taari: you’re the GOAT, brother.
To Shahid: you’re the bridge.
And to the listeners: you’re the heart of it all.
This is Baat Cheet. This is real community radio. This is how we rise

What Radio means to people

My Mum Doesn’t Trust the Internet—But She Trusts the Radio

“She listens to NuSound every day.
Doesn’t understand half the English on telly, but if someone on the radio says, ‘Beta, check your blood pressure,’ she’s already rolled up her sleeve.
Because the voice on the radio sounds like hers.
It’s familiar. Trusted. Human.

Radio is the Great Equaliser

“You don’t need a smartphone.
You don’t need Wi-Fi.
You don’t need to know where the mouse is on the laptop (which my mum still thinks is an actual mouse).”

“You just need a button to turn and ears to listen. That’s it.
Rich, poor, tech-savvy or tech-scared — everyone gets the same message, at the same time.
That’s equity. That’s power.

And Honestly… It Fits My Life

“Radio plays while I’m cooking, cleaning, checking on mum, or just trying to have five minutes of peace.
It speaks to my day, my world, my pace.
That’s why I love what Blossom Group does with NuSound Radio—because it’s not just about information, it’s about access. Belonging. Understanding.”

Final Word from Sheetal

“Equity isn’t fancy websites and leaflets in one font size.
It’s hearing a voice that sounds like yours, telling you something that matters, at the exact moment you need it.
That’s radio. That’s NuSound. That’s why it lives in our hearts.”

Simon, 16 – Radio’s No.1 Fan (and proud of it)

“Yo, I’m Simon. I’m 16, live in East London, and I’m probably the only one in my group who still listens to proper radio.
Not just podcasts — I mean live radio, with real people, real stories, and no filters.”

“Everyone else’s on TikTok or Spotify, yeah, but I’ve always been into it. There’s just something about it that feels more real. Like—anything could happen. One minute it’s music, next it’s some auntie going off about blood pressure or some uncle telling you how to check your sugar levels.”

“I’ll be honest, half the time I’ve got NuSound on in the background while I’m doing homework or gaming. Sometimes my mum’s listening too, asking me, ‘Did you hear what they just said about mental health?’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, actually, I did.’ And now we’re having a convo we wouldn’t have had otherwise.”

Why I Rate It

“There’s no pressure. No ‘click here to register.’
No one’s watching you, no ads popping up.
You just turn it on, and you’re in.”

“And the shows? Jokes. You’ve got people chatting about serious stuff but they make it make sense. They keep it local. You hear names of places you actually know — Newham, Ilford, Forest Gate, all of that.”

“The Baat Cheet show on Fridays? I rate it. You’ll be getting proper advice, but it doesn’t feel like a lecture. It’s calm, it’s funny, and it’s real. Plus, the guys hosting it — Taari and Shahid — they’ve got that vibe, like proper uncles but cool with it.”

Final Word

“Look, everyone’s got their thing. Some people scroll, I tune in.
Radio’s not dead — not even close. It’s just got character.
It’s part of life here. You grow up with it, it’s always on somewhere, someone’s always listening.
It’s not just background noise. It’s home.”
